JPEO-CBRND Hosts Next-Generation Individual Protection Industry Day

By Vashelle Nino, JPEO-CBRND Public Affairs

On July 22-23, 2025, the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense’s (JPEO-CBRND) Joint Project Manager for CBRN Protection hosted a Next-Generation Individual Protection (Next-Gen IP) Industry Day. The objective was to identify potential sources of individual ensembles that are scalable, modular, upgradable, and protect against Chemical Warfare Agents (CWA), Biological Warfare Agents (BWA), radiological particulate threats, and Non-Traditional Agent (NTA) threats, while improving mobility, comfort, and logistical sustainability.

The JPM CBRN Protection team used the JPEO-CBRND’s web-based platform that engages industry professionals known as the Joint Enterprise Technology Tool (JETT), social media posts, and SAM.gov to strategically advertise, amplify, and connect the event to a broader base of commercial solutions than ever before. JPM CBRN Protection saw a 38% increase in Request for Information (RFI) responses (more than initial market research expectations), and a widely attended event with representatives from over 30 companies interested in addressing JPEO-CBRND’s Next-Gen IP requirements. Industry attendees also leveraged JETT to register for the event and schedule one-on-one sessions with the JPM CBRN Protection team.

The event began with briefings from the Joint Project Manager for CBRN Protection, Mr. Steven Batts, and the Next-Gen IP program office team. The presentations informed industry attendees about the solicitation and award process, requirements, evaluation factors, and other relevant topics regarding working with the U.S. Government (USG). Both days also offered one-on-one sessions allowing vendors to demonstrate their technologies and field questions from CBRN defense experts.

Industry partners are critical to the successful development of CBRN defense capabilities. Events like the Next-Gen IP Industry Day allow businesses—even those who don’t traditionally work with the Defense Department or USG—to interface with USG teams and share innovative solutions that could help warfighters fight and win in a CBRN-contested environment.
