The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) hosted its third annual Safety Day for the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) community. The event was held on 21 August in the Chemical Demilitarization Training Facility on APG South and was organized by the JPEO-CBRND’s Chief of Operations (CHOPS) Safety and Security team.

The event opened with a performance by 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, traditionally known as “The Old Guard,” followed by JPEO-CBRND's Chief of Staff Gordon Graham sharing a few words about the importance of safety, the dangers of complacency in day-to-day safety practices, and personal lessons learned.

“The biggest danger to our safety is when we think that nothing bad can happen, take worthless risks that can cost us our lives or our loved one's lives. Something only has to go wrong once for it to go wrong,” said Graham. “Safety Day helps remind us about the role that we play to prevent accidents and protect ourselves and our environments.”

Then, entities from across the APG community including the Sheriff’s Office, APG Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic, and APG Police Department, supported live demonstrations, hands-on activities, equipment displays, and shared expert tips about safety and security in the workplace and at home.

The annual event is open to the entire APG community to stress importance and raise awareness of safety in the workplace, at home, and everywhere in between. Hosting this event allows the JPEO-CBRND to support and give back to the greater APG community by promoting safety and wellbeing, living out the organization’s "People First" philosophy.
