JPEO-CBRND Announces Openings for Acquisition Soldiers

For Army acquisition officers with the rank of captain through colonel set to have a permanent change of station in summer 2023, the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) has announced four opportunities to serve at JPEO-CBRND during this year’s Assignment Interactive Module version 2, or “AIM 2.”

Mr. Darryl Colvin, the joint program executive officer for CBRN defense, spoke to a group of interested Soldiers in early October about the openings at JPEO. “What we’re preparing you to do as acquisition professionals is provide acquisition expertise and leadership regardless of the commodity. It’s all about how to most effectively and efficiently acquire the capabilities that the entire Army and our Joint Forces require in order to be successful in combined Joint All-Domain Operations.”

For those interested in joining the JPEO-CBRND’s team of acquisition professionals, opportunities this year include:
  • Military deputy to the product director for CBRN command and control (O-5, JPL CBRN Integration, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.);
  • Assistant product manager for CBRN individual protection (O-3, JPM CBRN Protection, Stafford, Va.);
  • Assistant joint product manager for CBRN platform integration (O-3, JPM CBRN Sensors, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.); and
  • Assistant Joint Program Executive Officer for CBRN Medical (O-6, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.).

The military deputy to the product director for CBRN command and control will manage a portfolio of programs that support the Defense Department’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control, help deliver new integrated layered CBRN defense capabilities, and engage with a broad range of stakeholders and support key Army modernization efforts.

The assistant product manager for CBRN individual protection will manage a portfolio for developing and fielding next-generation suits that will replace mission-oriented protective posture, or “MOPP,” and touchscreen-enabled gloves. They will lead a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of 45-50 personnel on a high-visibility ACAT (acquisition category) II program and two ACAT III programs.

Soldiers interested in serving as the assistant joint product manager for CBRN platform integration would be responsible for the Stryker nuclear biological chemical reconnaissance vehicle’s (NBCRV) sensor suite CBRN detection and reconnaissance capability. This will involve supporting engagements up to the three- and four-star level as well as coordinate multiple Soldier touchpoints that collect feedback from the capability’s end-users that will inform and guide training systems and warfighter interfaces.

For those applying for the assistant joint program executive officer for CBRN – Medical, the senior-level position enforces joint medical program baseline, coordinates medical joint requirements and plans with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, Joint Services, Combatant Commands, and interagency partners to assure mission responsibilities, and exercises responsibility for a joint program budget of approximately $1.0B annually across all appropriations and approximately 1,000 Joint Service personnel.

“I really enjoy the AIM Marketplace because it gives us a great opportunity to introduce ourselves as a JPEO and allow you to think through from an assignments perspective what’s a good match for you going forward,” said Mr. Colvin during his remarks.

Eligible Soldiers can apply for the positions listed in the 23-02 AIM2 Marketplace out of the Army’s Human Resources Command at https://aim.hrc.army.mil/. The Marketplace is open from Oct. 3 through Nov. 14. Those who apply can attend a live-stream information session and schedule follow-up interviews with the JPEO-CBRND Leadership team.
